What is remedial massage?

Remedial massage involves the assessment and treatment of muscles, ligaments, tendons and connective tissues of the body to assist with pain management. The process of deep tissue massage allows experts to find areas of pain during rehabilitation or ongoing treatment.

Through manual techniques, a remedial massage therapist massages the body to promote healing and pain release. Oil is used and applied directly to the skin during the process. The kneading and manipulation stimulates circulation, helping the body remove toxins from injured areas.

Remedial massage is designed to balance muscle, soft tissue and tension, which promotes a return to improved mobility. The increase in blood flow in the lymphatic system can remove blockages, adhesions and damaged cells caused by injury.

Remedial massage can be an effective therapy for proactive pain management, and works well in conjunction with other treatment modalities. When remedial massage is employed as part of holistic treatment, it can contribute to:

  • Stimulation of the lymphatic system and increased circulation.

  • Enhanced rehabilitation response in soft tissue injuries.

  • Reduced muscle tension.

  • Stress and pain relief.

  • Greater mobility and flexibility.

After assessment and consultation, our remedial massage therapists can determine whether you would benefit from targeted sessions to better assist with your personally tailored treatment plan.

All of our sessions are specifically tailored to each individual client's needs.

We do this by making sure that we undertake a through client case history through our client information sheet. This is followed by a physical assessment of your posture and/or the presenting injury or complaint.

Following the end of your treatment, in most cases the therapist will suggest follow up exercises and/or a follow up treatment. This is so that we can evaluate if the remedial massage is the right treatment for you. We care about you and want to know how you're going.

We may also talk to you and offer suggestions on what else you can do, take or change to help you get the most out of our session with us.

We have a great network of referral partners and are not afraid to refer you on when needed. This is to ensure that you receive the best possible care, for your health and well-being.

It's important to understand that remedial massage works best as a pro-active health strategy, rather than just a reactive one.

Common conditions and remedial massage.

Remedial massage is an effective treatment for a range of symptoms and trigger points. As a service, remedial massage can be used to help diagnose areas of tension or reduced mobility. Soft tissue tension affects the normal position of the joints and associated nerve tissue.

Remedial massage is also effective in addressing a wide range of acute and chronic conditions that cause pain, and is suitable for treating several issues, including:

  • Soft tissue injury or targeted pain.

  • Tendonitis, bursitis or fibrosis.

  • Muscle tension or soreness from exercise

  • Postural or movement imbalances.

  • Sciatica (nerve pressure in the lower back).

At BODYCENTRAL, our expert remedial massage therapists work through your presentation, associated activity levels, work status or sporting goals to ensure all relevant areas are targeted.
